1. Overview
StoneScope is an iOS app that helps users identify rocks, gems, crystals, and minerals from photographs and provides photo-based estimated market ranges and related specimen information.
StoneScope does not use advertising tracking identifiers, does not request device location permission, and processes the onboarding demo scan locally on your device.
2. Information processed by the app
Photos you choose to scan
When you use the onboarding demo, the specimen photo is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted for remote analysis.
For real post-onboarding scans, a specimen photo may be transmitted to StoneScope’s configured analysis service when remote analysis is enabled. The analysis service may use OpenRouter and a vision-capable model provider to process the image and return identification and valuation information.
Information you save locally
Saved specimen photos, notes, optional location text you manually enter, favorites, and saved analysis results are stored locally on your device using Apple platform storage. StoneScope does not request your device’s location permission to create this information.
Subscription and paywall information
StoneScope uses RevenueCat to manage purchases, subscription entitlement state, receipt validation, and subscription-related analytics. StoneScope uses Superwall to present paywalls, make campaign decisions, and measure paywall interactions.
3. Information processed by this website
This website does not intentionally use first-party advertising trackers or behavioral analytics cookies. If the site is hosted on infrastructure such as Vercel, the hosting provider may process technical request information such as IP address, user-agent, timestamps, and request metadata for security, reliability, and delivery of the website.
4. Why information is processed
Information is processed only as reasonably necessary to provide and operate StoneScope, including to:
- analyze a specimen photo and return an identification result;
- generate an estimated market range and supporting value factors;
- save your collection and notes on your device;
- manage subscriptions, purchases, restores, and premium access;
- present and improve paywall experiences;
- maintain the security and reliability of the app and website.
5. Third-party service providers
Depending on the production configuration, StoneScope may rely on the following service providers:
- RevenueCat — purchases, receipt validation, entitlement state, and subscription analytics.
- Superwall — paywall presentation, campaign decisions, and paywall analytics.
- OpenRouter and the selected model provider — remote post-onboarding image analysis when enabled.
- Apple — App Store distribution, in-app purchase infrastructure, and platform services.
- Vercel — website hosting if this site is deployed there.
These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. Their exact processing may depend on the production configuration used by StoneScope.
6. Data retention and deletion
Information stored locally in your StoneScope collection remains on your device until you delete the relevant saved specimen data or remove the app, subject to Apple platform behavior and any device backups you control.
Information processed by third-party providers may be retained according to their applicable policies, agreements, and the configuration used by StoneScope. Remote scan images and analysis requests are intended to be processed only to provide the requested analysis and related service operations.
7. Tracking and advertising
StoneScope does not use advertising tracking identifiers and does not use your specimen content to deliver targeted advertising.
8. Your choices and rights
You can choose whether to take or import a specimen photo, whether to save a result, whether to add notes or location text, and whether to purchase a subscription. You can manage or cancel an Apple subscription through your Apple account settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability for personal information that is subject to applicable data protection law. Some StoneScope data exists only on your device and can be controlled directly from the app or device.
9. Children
StoneScope is not directed to children under the minimum age required to consent to digital services in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.
10. Security
StoneScope is designed to minimize unnecessary data movement and keep saved collection data local where practical. No method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
11. International processing
Third-party providers may process information in countries other than the one in which you live. Where required, applicable legal safeguards are used by those providers for international transfers.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as StoneScope changes, including when production service providers or data practices change. The “Last updated” date above will be revised when the policy changes materially.
